PPG Launches Innovel Series of Innovative Coatings

PPG Industries’ Packaging Coatings Division announced that it will exhibit INNOVEL® HPSTM, a new generation of coatings for the interior coating of beverage cans, in addition to introducing the Innovel line of innovative coatings. The product line is designed to meet the rising demands of the beverage industry and the increasingly stringent regulations for the production of aluminum and steel beverage cans and end caps.

Developed specifically for aluminum and steel beverage cans, Innovel HPS coatings are a breakthrough water-based coating. This new coating technology offers a wide range of packaging properties to better preserve the flavor and texture of filled beverages, meet Bass sterilization conditions and is suitable for high temperature cooking.

Innovel HPS coatings have been successfully marketed worldwide and are suitable for all major two-piece can production line requirements and have a wide application window.

In addition, PPG is also introducing Innovel HPETM new generation polyester coating for interior and exterior coating of beverage can lids at the show. The product is suitable for both inside and outside coating of beverage can easy-open lids and can provide a high-performance solution for substrate coating, beverage can manufacturers and beverage end customers.

Innovel HPE coatings are part of the BPA-NI (BPA-free) family and are fully compliant with the latest regulatory requirements in North America and Europe. This new product line also includes styrene-free and PVC-free coating families.

The Innovel HPE range is not only suitable for rolled easy-open lids, but also for sheet easy-open products.

The new W1 series of waterborne coatings for beverage bottle end caps, such as carbonated soft drinks and beer, was also one of PPG’s highlights at the show. This solution helps reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. It thus has good environmental performance.

In addition, the company introduced innovative high-performance coatings for the interior and exterior coating of aluminum bottles to the attendees. Its performance includes water-based bisphenol-free ABPA-NI, styrene-free, high gloss, flexible and friction-resistant water-based varnish coating.
